The Butler Transit Authority has given approval to a plan that would recognize and remember the Pullman Standard Plant.
Board member Jim Diamond received approval for an idea put forward by his Pullman group to hang banners on 18 light poles located on authority property, which is also the former location of the factory.
The 2-foot by 3-foot banners would be similar to the ones already up in the city honoring veterans, but they would each contain a different story or picture about the Pullman factory. Businesses, families or former workers at the plant could sponsor a banner and receive name recognition. Banners could be ready for display in a couple months.
Diamond’s group is also working on other ways to remember the site including an historical designation marker, as well as a case for memorabilia in a new multi-modal transportation center in the early planning stages for transit authority property.
