Barbara Joan McKee entered heaven’s gate at 3pm on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, surrounded by her friends and family.
Barbara was born in Kittanning, PA, on March 9, 1942, to Reed and Alice Marie (Cogley) Hoffman. Barb was a 1960 graduate of Dayton High School in Dayton, PA and a 1964 graduate of Penn State University.
Soon after college, Barb married her High School sweetheart, William L. McKee from North Point, PA. Barb and Bill were married 44 years until Bill’s passing in 2008. Starting in 1964, Barb worked for Penn State University in the College of Agricultural as a Family Living Extension Agent in Butler County. Later, Barb was a Food and Nutrition Supervisor in Butler County and an Extension Agent in Armstrong County until her retirement in 2000. She received various awards during her career for her programming in those counties.
After retirement they spent their winters in the Florida Keys and summers in Pennsylvania until they moved to Missouri in 2005. Since 2019 she has been residing at the Masonic Villages in Sewickley, where she was active in the community. Barb was also affiliated with Butler County Junior Women’s Club, Pennsylvania Association of Family Living Agents, National Association of Family Living Agents, (where she served in various state officer posts and received the Distinguished Service Award), Life member Penn State Alumni Association, PSU Retirees Association, AARP, Sisters in Support, Ambassador class at First Christian Church, Summit Presbyterian Church in Butler, Pa and First Christian Church in Rolla, Mo. Barb and Bill were the proud owners of Renegade Charter Inc. on Lake Erie where the family accelerated their passion for fishing and fun which still exists today.
Barb is survived by her son, William Shawn McKee and his wife Deborah; her daughter-in-law, Deb Rettig Frost and her husband Nick; 4 grandchildren; Luke and his wife McKenzie, Brody, Emma and Anne McKee; her sister, Renee and Richard Skinner and her sister-in-law Dr. Saundra McKee.
In addition to her parents and husband bill, Barb was preceded in death by her son, David McKee in 2010.
Friends will be received from 10-11 AM on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Summit Church, 181 Caldwell Dr., Butler, PA 16002 where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00.
