The Butler Area School District has agreed to a new contract with a union representing a group of their employees.
Earlier this week, the school board approved a three year agreement with the Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ that will go into effect on July 1st 2020.
According to Board President Nina Teff, this bargaining unit gave up a lot in the last contract and the district has had a tough time filling some of these positions. In an effort to make those jobs more attractive, this new deal contains a 2.7% pay increase each year and the opportunity for skilled maintenance employees to earn family health care coverage.
Bill Halle was the only board member who voted against the new contract and said that he did so out of concern for the cumulative cost totals for the deal.
