The Butler Area School District will be purchasing a large number of iPads to help with reading instruction at elementary levels.
During a meeting on Monday, the school board gave approval for administrators to issue a request for bids for 530 new iPads.
The devices would be used to support reading interventions in 1st through 6th grades and the request for bids would also include professional development resources to help teachers learn how to make the best use of the equipment. The iPads will be paid for using Federal Title 1 money that has already been allotted to the district this year.
The bids are expected to be received in time for the board to vote on awarding the contract at their April meeting.
