Even though Butler Area School District students have missed four days this year due to winter weather, they won’t have to go to school any additional days.
Superintendent Brian White sent parents a letter last week explaining that the snow make-up days will be used as Act 80 Professional Development days for faculty. Students won’t have to go to class.
The administration says this is possible because the district still has more instructional hours in this year’s schedule than are required by state.
“After much consideration and discussion, we have decided that the makeup days will be Act 80/Professional Development days for our faculty. Through our strategic planning process, a pronounced desire for more professional development was evident. Thus, we have decided to use these days to provide meaningful professional development opportunities to our faculty, ultimately benefiting our students,” White said in the letter.
The district says if school has to be cancelled again due to weather, students will have to make up those days.
“While I hope we do not have to cancel again, the winter is still far from over,” White said.
