In recognition of a strong need for qualified health professionals, the Butler Area School District is increasing the pay for substitute nurses.
At their meeting earlier this week, the Butler Area School Board approved a motion to increase the daily rate for substitute Registered Nurses from $100 to $200.
The district currently has 16 total health professional positions in their school facilities with 15 of those filled but many students require specific skilled care during the school day.
District administrators have looked into the possibility of contracting with a staffing service to meet this need but determined that would be more expensive with less money actually going to the substitutes.
This revised rate will continue for the remainder of the current school year.
