The Butler Area School District will soon begin to receive funds in connection with the settlement of a class-action lawsuit against a major producer of e-cigarettes.
After the settlement was approved earlier this year, Butler’s School Directors were informed that JUUL Labs will send the district the first half of a total of approximately $130,000 later this month. More funds will be distributed next year with the remainder paid the year after.
The money must be used for prevention or intervention programs dealing with deterring vape use among students. Superintendent Dr. Brian White will investigate educational programs and present his choice for spending the money to the board.
Other districts in Butler County including Seneca Valley, Knoch, Slippery Rock, Karns City, and Moniteau will also receive funds from this lawsuit.
