The battle of the future of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative continues in Pennsylvania.
Governor Josh Shapiro says that the state will challenge a recent decision by the Commonwealth Court that blocked Pennsylvania’s entrance into the program—which is known as RGGI.
The program is a regional effort that limits the amount of carbon that a state emits.
Shapiro’s office said in a statement that the appeal is more of an effort to keep executive authority with the governor.
Opponents argue that the governor cannot enter into the cap-and-trade program unilaterally. They also say it will have a negative impact on the economy.
The appeal will now go to the State Supreme Court.
