As a possible strike looms between Butler County Community College and the support professionals union, the board of trustees is advocating for a previous offer.
The Butler County Community College Board of Trustees has agreed with a state mediator’s suggestion as part of contract negotiations with the college’s support professionals union.
According to the board, at a negotiation on May 13th the mediator from the PA Department of Labor and Industry suggested that an expired contract offer from last year be revived to resolve the dispute with the union.
That three-year proposal from October would include 3% annual wage increases retroactive to July of 2023 as well as a starting hourly rate for full-time employees of $20.30 as part of a 37.5 hour work week. This offer also increased the one-time retirement incentive payment by $2,000 to $10,000 total. While the trustees agreed with this suggestion on May 15th, the union rejected the proposal on May 23rd.
The board and union, which represents 46 secretarial and clerical employees, have been negotiating since January of 2023 on a contract that expired at the end of last June.
