Longtime Butler County Community College President Dr. Nick Neupauer will be retiring at the end of the year.
The college made the announcement this morning, saying that Neupauer would be stepping down from his post on December 31st.
“I’ve had retired presidents tell me, ‘You will just know when,’” Neupauer said of his departure in a press release. “And after the completion of BC3 @ Armstrong and the Victor K. Phillips building, that internal voice became louder and louder, telling me, ‘Now’s the time.’”
The Ellwood City native has been the president of BC3 since his appointment in 2007. He’s been with the college since 1999.
Neupauer’s presidency is almost triple the national average. It is also longer than that of any current chief executive officer among Pennsylvania’s community colleges, its public four-year universities and its state-related institutions.
During that time BC3 has opened four different branch locations and has secured $21.7 million in assets to the college’s Education Foundation.
“There are only 15 community colleges in Pennsylvania,” Neupauer said. “While we are proud to be Butler County’s community college, we also have a responsibility in the commonwealth to go into underserved areas. We have such great quality. Why should imaginary county lines limit what we have to offer?”
Neupauer was the eighth president in BC3 history, and became the longest-serving in school history in 2021.
