Butler County Community College is stopping in-person credit programs in Mercer County later this year.
BC3 made the decision regarding their Linden Pointe branch campus in Hermitage after analyzing enrollment trends, facility usage, financial implications, and future sustainability.
Enrollment has declined significantly over the last decade from 300 students in 2014 to 45 last fall. Classes will conclude with the end of the summer session on August 5th. Currently enrolled students will be able to take online classes while faculty and staff could be reassigned.
According to BC3’s Vice President for Administration and Finance Jake Friel, the move will save about $450,000 annually. The college will still have a presence in Mercer County with online programs and classes, workforce training, and high school dual enrollment.
This comes after BC3 explored a partnership with Penn State Shenango in Sharon in 2023 and then listed the Linden Pointe facility for sale last year. No other BC3 locations will be impacted by this decision.
