A program to help Butler County Community College students in need of food assistance is still going strong after two years.
After nearly 40% of BC3 students who responded to a 2018 survey reported some level of food insecurity, a program that eventually became the Pioneer Pantry was launched in February of 2019.
Eight BC3 employees currently volunteer as members of the college’s food security team to divide donated food items and prepare for distribution in the Arts and Hospitality building to students in need.
The BC3 Education Foundation received nearly $4,000 in monetary donations for the Pioneer Pantry last year which helped to feed an average of 54 individuals per month.
All BC3 students, faculty, or staff, regardless of income or county can receive food through the Pioneer Pantry. Help is also available from the Alliance for Nonprofit Resources for those who meet state guidelines.
