Butler County Community College’s chief fundraiser is retiring.
Ruth Purcell has been the executive director of BC3’s Education Foundation since 2010.
And during that time, she believes the foundation has developed relationships that led to private donations making a major impact.
“We’ve increased the number of scholarships, and that’s always important for students. I think that number has tripled since we started,” Purcell said.
“Then, we’ve made a real impact on capital improvements around the campus during the last 10 years. From the walking trail, which was private money, to the Heaton Learning Commons, to the Wise Center, and now the new nursing building.
Purcell also cited the teamwork of the foundation staff that helped bring to light the positive impact BC3 has made on students and the community.
“I think a lot of people really weren’t aware they could not only talk about how much they love BC3, but could make an investment,” Purcell said. “And that would be an investment that could change the campus, or the life of a student, and people feel good about that.”
Purcell is proud of where BC3 is today, and hopes to see the foundation continue to play a vital role in the college’s development, whether through capital projects, scholarships, and enhancing programs.
Purcell officially retired last Wednesday and said she hopes to keep an active role as a volunteer at BC3.
