Those interested in getting an up-close view at some majestic birds or enjoying the outdoors with a canine companion are invited to a couple special events later this week at Moraine State Park.
On Friday, Preston’s Pearl will be setting sail from the McDanel’s Launch on the North Shore at 6 p.m. The Park Naturalist will lead those in attendance on a cruise that will feature views of eagles and osprey from the pontoon boat’s observation deck.
This event will continue until 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited, and tickets are $17 per person. Pre-registration is required, and can be made by calling the Owlet Gift Shop at 724-368-9185.
Also on Friday, the Park Naturalist is leading a Dog Hike with the Humane Society from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Moraine’s Pleasant Valley Non-Motorized Launch Area on the South Shore.
Participants will learn about dog safety on the Sunken Garden trail and what to carry to keep the hike enjoyable. Hikers will be heading around the nearly two mile short loop easy trail.
Friendly dogs on a leash are welcome. Owners must also pick up after dogs. Those planning to attend should wear sturdy hiking boots, dress for the weather, and bring drinking water.
