A former worker of a Beaver County long-term care facility is pleading guilty after he abused disabled residents in his care.
32-year-old Tyler Smith of New Brighton plead guilty to committing hate crimes while working at McGuire Memorial Home.
Smith, and his co-defendant Zachary Dinell, were responsible for caring for disabled residents in 2016 and 2017.
According to the Department of Justice, the two men admitted punching and kicking disabled residents. They would also put irritants in residents’ eyes and mouths. The two men recorded the acts on their phones.
Smith is now facing a minimum of five to ten years in prison. Dinell had already pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 17 years in jail.
