Bernard J. (Bernie) Baker, 76, of Evans City, passed away on February 21, 2023, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 5, 1946, in Ellwood City, to the late Clifford W. and Margaret (Roman) Baker. He was a 1964 graduate of Zelienople High School and served his country in the U.S. Army Military Police from 1965 to 1967. Bernie was a master mechanic, beginning his career with Ed Wagner Auto Salvage, at age 15, and retiring after 38 years as an equipment mechanic from Penn Power/First Energy in Zelienople. Bernie was an avid reader, a former private pilot, and enjoyed car shows and local history. He was an active member of the Lancaster Township Historical Records Committee. He enjoyed spending time in his garage and sharing his knowledge with friends and family. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sally, whom he married on October 25, 1969; his two daughters, Jennifer (David) Vasil and Amy (David Sinclair) Baker; his nephew Glenn (Diane) Baker; his great-niece Sarah Baker; and his canine companion Molly-Dog. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Shirley Baker.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, February 26, 2023, from 1 until 2 pm at First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle Street, Butler.
