Bette L. Norris, 82, of Valencia, passed away peacefully on April 11th at Allegheny Health Network Hospital in Wexford, following a brief illness.
Born on February 6, 1943, in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of Leslie and Dorothy Williams.
Mrs. Norris graduated from Bennett High School in Buffalo and completed her professional training in dental hygiene at Erie County Technical Institute.
In 1962 she married Dr. Richard J. King and moved to Butler County, Pennsylvania. She committed to numerous philanthropic causes serving as President of both the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Woodlands Foundation Auxiliary, championing fundraising and special projects that improved the lives of children and adults living with disabilities and chronic illnesses. She was a fifty-year member and past President of the Butler Garden Club and served as a docent for the Maridon Museum, reflecting her love of art and education.
After Dr. King’s passing in 2004, she married Thomas Norris in 2007. Together, they enjoyed golf, travel, winters in Florida, and, most of all, time spent with their family.
Mrs. Norris was a talented tennis player, winning multiple women’s and mixed doubles championships at the Butler Country Club, as well as an avid golfer. She was a faithful member of Bakerstown Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas Norris; her daughter, Melissa King; three sons, Richard King, Jr. and his wife, Megan, of Berwyn, PA; Brian King and his wife, Beth Ann, of Duxbury, MA; and David King of Brooklyn, NY; as well as nine grandchildren: Tyler and Spencer King of Wexford, Richard King III of Charlotte, NC, Thomas King of Philadelphia, Elizabeth King of Berwyn, and Madeleine, Brian Jr., Jackson, and Maxwell King of Duxbury, MA.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Lawrence Williams.
In lieu of a memorial service, Mrs. Norris’s family will plan a celebration of her life later this year.
