Betty Jane (Clauser) McFadden, 88, of Wilkes-Barre, PA, formerly of Butler, PA, passed away peacefully, without any pain or suffering, on Monday, May 2, 2022, at River Street Manor in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Born June 3, 1933, in Butler, PA, she was the daughter of the late Vincent C. Clauser and Helen (Collodi) Clauser. At the age of 16, Betty lost her eyesight. However, she did not let that hold her back. With her superior intelligence, Betty self-taught herself the Braille Alphabet System.
Recognizing Betty’s intelligence and potential, in 1970, the PA. Association for the Blind provided Betty with a career opportunity for her to earn a substantial salary to live independently on her own. Subsequently, Betty moved her and her youngest son to Harrisburg, PA., to become the sole operator and manager of the Blind Assn’s breakfast/luncheonette in the Harrisburg Court House. For 19 years, Betty succeeded as a professional career woman at this position, managing and supervising three employees, and establishing her personable camaraderie, to earn significant profit, each year, for the PA. Assn for the Blind.
Betty was an active member of the First Alliance Church in Harrisburg, PA., and the Community Alliance Church in Butler, PA.
She is survived by her 3 sons: Charles, James and Donald, several grandchildren and numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her five brothers: Charles Clauser, Joseph Clauser, Robert Clauser, Chester Clauser, and Richard Clauser and two sisters: Marie Smith and Clara Rocco.
A gathering a friends and funeral service will be held at Butler County Memorial Park Chapel of Devotion from 11-12 on Tuesday May 10, 2022. Burial will immediately follow.
