Butler Health System continues to serve as the main distributor of the COVID-19 vaccine in the county.
While officials say they can now administer up to 1,200 shots per day, Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Rottinghaus is hopeful production of vaccine will escalate quickly.
“I really trust and have a lot of faith that the feds and the state are coordinating the best they can, again they’re just limited by supply” Rottinghaus said. “But I think we’ll catch up quickly, and I think as more candidate vaccines come forward, and I anticipate Johnson and Johnson getting approved, distribution will increase, and access to vaccinations will increase.”
Right now, the hospital is vaccinating health care workers and those 65 and older. Rottinghaus says that residents should keep an active eye on the hospital’s website for scheduling.
“Checking every few days is probably best. We generally find out early in the week what our shipment is going to be and then we open up appointments based on numbers from there,” Rottinghaus said.
So far, over 20,000 county residents have received at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine.
