As Butler Health System readies to transition their vaccine clinic to the Clearview Mall in a few weeks, doctors are reassuring the safety of the process being done outside a hospital setting.
Dr. John Love is the infectious disease director at Butler Health System and he said the process will remain safe and efficient when conducted at the former Sears location.
“These vaccines are being administered in retail pharmacies, which don’t have emergency rooms in them, or EMS crews outside. We’ve had so few incidents of adverse reactions to these vaccines, that forcing vaccines to be done in locations with emergency rooms attached or EMS on-call is just a little impractical,” Love said.
Love says that if vaccines are going to be rolled out at the pace that is necessary, it’s appropriate to conduct clinics this way.
“These are not high risk treatments. We want to get these out and available and make them as available to people as possible,” Love said. “We can do that by getting the shots into a wider range of sites in our communities.”
The vaccination clinic will move from the hospital to the former Sears location at the mall on April 14th.
