President Joe Biden was in Pittsburgh yesterday to unveil his roughly $2 trillion infrastructure plan.
“American Jobs Plan will modernize 20,000 miles of highways, roads, and Main Streets that are in difficult shape right now,” Biden said. “It’ll fix the nation’s ten most economically significant bridges in America that require replacement. It will also repair 10,000 bridges.”
Biden added that the jobs plan will build new rail cars and transit lines.
The President made the speech at the Carpenter’s Training Center in Pittsburgh.
“Two years ago, I began my campaign here in Pittsburgh saying I was running to rebuild the backbone of America,” Biden started his speech. “Today, I return to layout the vision of how we’ll do that. It’s a vision not seen through the eyes of Wall Street or Washington, but through the eyes of hard working people.”
The proposal brought push back from Republicans, including Congressman Mike Kelly of Butler.
He says that the President’s proposal will result in lower wages and more jobs being sent overseas.
“President Biden has called for massive new spending and one of the largest tax increases in American history just as we are climbing out of the lockdown recession,” Kelly said in a statement. “America needs creative, bipartisan solutions to modernize America’s aging infrastructure that spur investment, not higher taxes on hard-working Americans.”
Biden said he would raise the corporate tax rate to from 21 percent to 28 percent, and that taxes would be raised on people making more than $400,000 per year.
