Pennsylvania voters may soon elect lieutenant governors in a different way.
A bill moved out of a state Senate committee that would allow candidates for governor to choose their lieutenant governor as a running mate—similar to the way presidents choose vice presidents.
“It essentially would follow the federal model, and say in the future, after a primary a gubernatorial candidate would be able to select his or her candidate for lieutenant governor just as presidential candidates select vice presidential candidates,” Senator David Argall of Berks County said.
This bill would be a constitutional amendment and could potentially go to the voters as soon as November.
