A bill authored by a local state representative has passed in the house of representatives with the goal of protecting personal data.
The bill from State Rep. Stephine Scialabba of Cranberry protects Pennsylvanian’s data and how it is used and sold.
Scialabba says that businesses that control personal information and generate more than $10 million in annual revenue or 50 percent of revenue comes from selling consumer information would be impacted by this legislation.
It will allow consumers to have a right to know if a business is processing personal data, correct inaccuracies in their data, delete personal data, and have the option to opt out of their personal data being shared.
Business will have 45 days to respond to consumers, the Attorney Generals would ensure compliance.
The bill now moves to the senate for consideration.
