A bill that advocates say would help count mail-in ballots quicker has made it through an initial House committee.
The bill would allow election workers to “pre-canvass” mail-in ballots prior to 7 a.m. on Election Day. That means that workers would be able to open the envelope and prepare them to be counted.
Supporters of the bill say that election workers are pressed for time during the day, and this would allow the process to go quicker.
The bill now moves to the State House.
