A bill that would allow schools the option to provide flexible instruction days in the event of an emergency school closure has been approved by the state Senate.
Senate Bill 440 would allow any public school to use up to five flexible instruction days in special instances such as weather-related closures.
Schools could use technology to cover necessary coursework without needing to schedule a make-up day. A dozen school districts across the state- including Seneca Valley- have successfully piloted flexible instructional days over the past several years and Mars School District has also expressed interest in doing so if the opportunity was available.
The bill will next move to the state House of Representatives for consideration and possible vote.
