The Boston Red Sox defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-4 in exhibition baseball Tuesday. Andrew Heaney made his Pirates debut and couldn’t get out of the second inning. He allowed four earned runs in 1-2/3rds of an inning and walked three. Heaney got a late start to training camp after signing a free agent contract with the Pirates February 22nd. Outfielder Ji Hwan Bae had three hits in three at-bats for the Bucs, including his first home run of the spring.
Former Pirate starting pitcher Quinn Priester pitched into the third inning for the Red Sox, and allowed just the Bae home run. He allowed four hits and struck out four. Priester was traded to Boston last season for utilityman Nick Yorke.
The Pirates host Toronto in Bradenton today at 1:05pm. (Although rain is expected)
