A police chief from Northern Allegheny County was fatally shot and another officer was injured during an incident yesterday afternoon.
According to our news partners at WPXI, Brackenridge Police Chief Justin McIntire was killed in a shootout with suspect Aaron Lamont Swan. Another officer from Tarentum was shot in the leg, but is currently in stable condition.
Swan was wanted on probation charges in connection with a weapons violation. He was pulled over for a traffic stop Sunday and fled police.
McIntire confronted Swan around 4 p.m. Monday, when Swan allegedly opened fire. After shooting the officers, Swan took off leading multiple law enforcement agencies to swarm the area including a heavy police presence on Route 28.
He was eventually found in Pittsburgh’s East End where Swan allegedly fired once again at police. Officers returned fire, and Swan was shot and killed.
The 46-year-old McIntire had been police chief of Brackenridge since 2019.
