Two buses formerly used by the Butler Transit Authority will get new life as part of a transportation exhibit.
The authority approved the donation of a 35-foot Gillig diesel bus and a 30-foot Gillig diesel bus to the Antique Motor Coach Association of Pennsylvania. The 30-foot bus is one of the last of that size and style to come off the assembly line in California.
The buses were purchased from the Port Authority in Allegheny County and refurbished for use in Butler a couple years ago, but made obsolete by the recent acquisition of three compressed natural gas buses for local service.
PennDOT has given their approval for the donation so the buses will be housed in Pittsburgh and displayed publicly as they currently look- with BTA logos- when the association’s facility is open.
