–The Butler Boys basketball team defeated Upper St. Clair 77-73 last night at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township. It was the Golden Tornado’s 17th consecutive win and was part of another dramatic comeback for the team. Butler trailed by 11 points at one point of the second half. Mattix Clement led the Golden Tornado with 26 points. Ethan Morton had 21, despite being hobbled with an injured ankle. He scored 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Butler will now 22-4 and will face McDowell Saturday in the 6A Western Region quarterfinals. McDowell defeated Central York 68-61.
–The North Catholic Boys defeated Aliquippa 68-62 last night in the 3A Second Round. Isaac DeGregorio led the Trojans with 25 points. North Catholic will meet Richland Saturday in the Western Region quarterfinals.
–The North Catholic Girls defeated Central Valley 53-49. Kylee Lewandowski netted 23 for the Trojanettes. North Catholic has advanced into the Western Region quarterfinals for the sixth year in a row. They will face Forest Hills Saturday.
–The Grove City Boys will meet Hickory Friday in the 4A Quarterfinals – the game will be played at Sharon high school and begin at 7pm.
In the 6A tournament – Mt. Lebanon was to play Cheltenham last night in the PIAA tournament – but Mt. Lebo school officials decided they would not play the game after the Cheltenham schools were closed earlier this week after a school parent was a caregiver to a patient who tested “presumptive positive” for the Coronavirus in Easter Pennsylvania.
A decision by the PIAA on what to do moving forward has not been announced. Three other Eastern Pa schools informed the PIAA they would not host second-round playoff games as a precaution.
Hockey:
–Seneca Valley will meet Peters Township in the PIHL Class 3A semifinals tonight at the RMU Island Sports Center. Face-off is 9pm.
Pine-Richland and North Allegheny meet in the other 3A semifinal at 7pm.
–Mars fell to Baldwin 3-2 in overtime last night in the 2A semifinals.
