The Butler Area School District is continuing forward in the process adding learning space to the Senior High School campus.
At their regular meeting Monday night, the district’s Board of School Directors approved the awarding of bids for construction of additional classroom space with a total cost of just over $10 million.
General contracting will be provided by Nello Construction based in Carnegie at a cost of $7 million. The HVAC work has been awarded to D&G Mechanical for nearly $1.5 million. Merit Electrical will do the electrical work on the project for nearly $1.3 million. Gibsonia-based Vrabel Plumbing will provide plumbing work at a cost of just over $500,000.
The classroom addition project will be constructed at the current site of the covered walkway near the Vo-Tech and include STEM space, a large group instruction area and a connection to the 300 wing. The project will also include exterior paint and signage as well as a dust collector for the STEM area. This addition is necessary for reorganization that would see 9th grade students shifted to the Senior High.
Final approval for this project was granted by the Butler Township Commissioners earlier this month. The process to begin the construction is expected to get underway sometime in the next month pending availability of supplies with a goal of at least partial completion in about one year.
