The Butler Area School District is moving forward with the next steps to reopen Broad Street Elementary School.
Monday night the School Board approved a motion to authorize Superintendent Dr. Brian White to take all the required actions with the Pennsylvania Department of Education to reopen the school for the fall of 2021.
“I’m really excited about and I think it’s a big game changer for our families and kids,” White said. “I think some of the plans we have for the building will strengthen some of the great plans we had going on, so I’m excited about it.”
A team of teachers and administrators including newly hired Principal Vanessa Boyd has been working on a mission statement and specific building philosophies for Broad Street.
They are expected to reach out to community members in the near future to form a school development team to come up with a unique approach that compliments other elementary schools in the district.
Although students from Summit Elementary attended Broad Street for a portion of 2017, the school has been closed since 2015.
