The Butler Area School Board has decided not to enter into an agreement that would put solar panels on district property in exchange for a new roof on the Intermediate School but they will continue to investigate solar opportunities.
After hearing from representatives of a collection of companies last month about a plan that could have saved the district a large amount of money over 30 years, school board members and administrators agreed that the term of the agreement was too long.
In addition to being locked in to three decades of set cost, some board members expressed hesitation about the number of panels that would need to be installed on the ground at other district facilities. Butler Superintendent Dr. Brian White plans to attend workshops on how school districts can benefit from solar power to continue to learn more about options to present to the board.
The Moniteau School District is also considering a similar proposal from these companies for solar power generation and use.
