Local kids will have a chance to get started on summer reading with a new initiative from the Butler Area School District this week.
The BookStop will make its first run through the community on Monday, June 18 to allow kids to pick out a free, gently used book.
Two routes will be running Monday in order to reach as many kids as possible.
The Blue Route will spend 20 minutes at the Clearfield Township Municipal Building beginning at 9:30 a.m. before moving on to stops at Herman Firehall Parking Lot, East Butler Firehall, St. Joe’s Roman Catholic Church, Institute Hill Playground, and Father Marinaro Park.
The Gold Route kicks off at the same time (9:30 a.m.) with stops at Connoquenessing School, the parking lot across from St. John’s Byzantine Church, Alameda Park Purple Playground, Broad Street School, Emily Brittain School, and Ritts Park, before finishing up at Crossfire Church Parking Lot at 2:35 p.m.
Kids are welcome to bring a book to trade or just pick one out for themselves. Book donations are still being accepted but are not required to be able to participate.
