A Pennsylvania appeals court has ordered a new sentencing hearing for Jerry Sandusky.
A Superior Court panel ruled that the former Penn State University assistant football coach’s 30-60 year prison sentence included improper application of mandatory minimums.
The 75-year-old Sandusky was sentenced in 2012 on 45 sexual assault convictions. His arguments for a new trial were struck down.
Sandusky’s attorney- Al Lindsay of Butler- said he will appeal to the state’s highest court.
Lindsay told our news partners at WPXI-TV during a news conference Wednesday that he stands behind his client. He said he’s feeling optimistic and hopes the courts will now reduce Sandusky’s sentence.
Sandusky has maintained his innocence despite several victims testifying in court about alleged abuse and threats.
