The City of Butler is taking the next step in the process to turn control of the Butler Transit Authority over to Butler County.
Butler City Council is expected to approve a motion Thursday for the first reading of an ordinance that would withdraw the city as an authority member.
The motion will need a second reading and vote in January before it would go into effect but at that point, the city would no longer be responsible for contributing financial support to the authority.
This is just the latest step in a lengthy process that also involves Butler Township who joined with Butler City to form that authority in 1989. Butler County is expected to expand local public transportation options.
