Butler City residents are invited to participate in the process to help decide the roads that will be paved during the upcoming year.
According to City Building Code Official John Evans, $500,000 has been included in this year’s city budget for the resurfacing of roads. This is double the amount normally available for paving but not enough to cover all 60 streets on the master paving list.
The city is considering overlaying two streets that are currently brick with blacktop. Those streets are American Avenue from Mercer to the end at 13th Avenue and 3rd Street from Brady to Pearl near the hospital. It is very expensive to fix brick streets that are in this bad of shape and much more cost effective to pave over the bricks.
The decision about what action will be taken on what streets is expected to be made by City officials with the streets, engineering, and zoning departments sometime in the next month.
Suggestions about roads in need of attention are being accepted. Those with ideas should contact the city building and be prepared with specific details of the exact areas of the greatest need.
