A disaster emergency has been declared in Butler County.
The Butler County Commissioners made the announcement at a press conference shortly before noon Wednesday at the Butler County Government Center. County solicitor Wil White:
“The Butler County Board of Commissioners do hereby declare the existence of a disaster emergency in Butler County due to covid-19. Further, the commissioners in conjunction with the county’s emergency management coordinator shall coordinate the county’s emergency response to work with state and federal authorities to take all appropriate action needed to alleviate the effects of this disaster.”
This declaration also creates a Leadership Council that will assist and advise the Commissioners and County Emergency Management Coordinator. Members will be designated by the Commissioners and the Council will meet as needed.
A total of about 80 test kits have been collected in Butler County so far and sent out but those results are not expected for another 3 or 4 days so as of now, no confirmed cases of coronavirus exist in Butler County.
Butler County Judge William Shaffer on the new screening policy at the Butler County Government Center:
“Effective immediately, all individuals including staff wishing to enter the Butler County Courthouse and Judicial Center shall be subject to healthcare screening at the building’s point of entry. The healthcare screening will be conducted by the Butler County Sheriff’s Department or other individuals so designated by the Commissioners in consultation with the court of common pleas and county health officials.”
