A Butler County native will be the new leader of the Pittsburgh Festival Opera.
The city’s resident summer company named Knoch graduate Marianne Cornetti as its new artistic director.
Cornetti comes back to Pittsburgh exactly 30 years after making her debut with the Pittsburgh Opera.
She spoke with our Dave Malarkey on WISR’s It’s Your Turn program about her career.
“I can’t tell you how many times people have asked me ‘How does a kid from Cabot make it to the Metropolitan Opera?'” Cornetti said. “Believe me, it doesn’t matter where you come from. It matters if you have the village around you, the family around you, the drive to do it, the talent to do it, and the God-given gift.”
