Although the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has continued a drought watch across the state, Butler County is not among the affected areas.
The DEP Drought Task Force says that although precipitation has increased and stream flows are responding, groundwater levels remain low in some areas.
DEP is encouraging residents in neighboring Mercer and Venango counties to reduce nonessential water use. This includes running the dishwasher/washing machine less, setting mowing blades to 2-3 inches so grass can shade the soil, setting up a rain barrel to repurpose water, and much more.
Visit the DEP drought website for a map of daily drought status.
