Butler Area School District officials say a recent analysis showed that it is too expensive to install air conditioning in every school.
Superintendent Dr. Brian White said they requested a study to look at pricing of what it would take to provide A/C to each school.
“We engaged an engineering firm to determine what it would cost to put air conditioning in all of our schools,” White said. “It was a hair over $44 million. That’s not attainable.”
White says they are looking at what alternatives could emerge.
“We’re now looking at what plans would be attainable and focusing in on areas we refer to as ‘big box areas’ like our cafeteria, that holds hundreds of kids,” White said. “We’re going to try to focus on those areas first.”
White also noted that this is all strategic at the moment, and there are no immediate plans.
