Butler High School football will be returning the WPIAL in 2024.
School officials say they made the move following a negotiation with the PIAA.
Butler had left the WPIAL following the 2019 season and was allowed to participate in District 10 as an associate member.
However, Butler officials say that the PIAA has changed its bylaws which will now prevent Butler from playing in the District 10 postseason in 2024.
School officials decided that the option with the most certainty was to return to the WPIAL during the next scheduling cycle in 2024.
Butler will still be eligible for the District 10 playoffs this year.
