The Butler Golden Tornado football program will be playing an independent schedule this fall.
Athletic Director Bill Mylan confirmed to our newsroom that the PIAA and Butler reached an agreement to allow the football team to play independently for the next two years.
For the previous four years, Butler had played as an associate member of District 10. However, the WPIAL banned Butler from playing in the league’s postseason and wanted the Golden Tornado to return to their 6A classification.
However, the district opted to make the move to play independently in an effort to continue the program’s rebuild.
