The Butler high school girls bowling team won the Pennsylvania Western Regional Championship on Saturday at Princess Lanes in Pittsburgh. Butler defeated Erie McDowell 2-1 in the championship round. They defeated Plum 2-1 in the semifinals after qualifying second overall. Nicole Nebel led all participants in qualifying with a 583 series. Jordyn Graham added a 528 series, Ashley McCue a 511 and Abby Kyle a 509. (Butler was the only team to have four of their five bowlers roll better than a 500 series.)
The Butler boys bowlers were the runner-up in the Regional Championship. The Butler boys also qualified second overall, and defeated Ambridge 2-0 before falling 2-1 to Armstrong. Chris Huff led all boys bowlers in qualifying with a 604 series. It was the only 600 series rolled by anyone in the championships. Jordan Reges added a 571 series. Cole Thrash added a 557 series.
Both teams move on to the Pennsylvania State Championships in Pittsburgh next weekend.
