Butler Health System announced that they have signed a letter of intent to merger with another regional healthcare system based out of Westmoreland County.
Officials announced the plans with Excela Health this morning.
According to Butler Health System, the newly formed organization would generate over “$1 billion in revenue, employ around 7,300 people and have over 1,000 doctors and practitioners.
The system would also oversee five different hospitals—including Butler Memorial Hospital and Clarion Hospital.
Details regarding how the administrative team and new system name will be determined at a later date.
However, hospital officials also noted that final regulatory and board approvals could take through the end of this year before the merger becomes finalized.
