The word dynasty is typically reserved for teams like the New England Patriots and the New York Yankees. The Butler High School Mock Trial team also fits the bill.
A group of over 30 students will be heading to Harrisburg to compete in the state championship after claiming their 11th straight Butler County title.
David Cooper is a history teacher at Butler High and the mock trial coordinator says the PA Bar Association sponsors the event.
The schools are sent a case at the beginning of the year which include written affidavits. The teams then break down the information to get ready for upcoming competitions.
“A typical team consists of 12 members,” Cooper said. “We have three who represent the defense, three act as the prosecution, and then three witnesses on each side of the case.”
As for the actual competition, a coin flip determines which side the schools will be representing. The teams then battle for points scored by judges.
The team will compete against other schools in the state finals at the state court house in Harrisburg on March 29th and 30th.
