Passover begins next week and the Butler Area Public Library is marking the occasion with a couple of events tonight spotlighting Jewish culture and history.
First, the library is hosting a Passover Storytime from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Children’s Department. A member of the local B’nai Abraham Congregation will join families for a story, activity, and a special snack. No registration is required.
Also at 6 p.m. tonight the Stories of Exile film series will continue with a screening and discussion of the film “Harbor from the Holocaust”. This is the story of nearly 20,000 Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi-occupied Europe during World War two to the Chinese city of Shanghai.
The seven-day major Jewish holiday begins with the first Passover Seder, which happens Monday at sundown and continues until April 30th. This event commemorates the Exodus from Egypt made by the Israelites.
