The Butler Area School District could choose to make adjustments if food service utilization does not return to pre-pandemic numbers next year.
In a preliminary budget presentation from The Nutrition Group which the district contracts to handle food service, the Butler School Board heard about a possible shortfall in the 2021-22 school year.
The district is currently operating their food service program with a surplus this year even with lower utilization as a result of government program assistance to pay for meals.
If those programs expire this fall, the board will need to consider other factors such as number of virtual students not purchasing meals or ala carte items when deciding if staffing needs to be cut back or if the prices of certain items need to be raised.
