A Butler native and world-renowned opera singer returns to Pittsburgh this weekend for a performance that she says was the first big break of her career.
Marianne Cornetti will be taking the stage at the Benedum Center this Saturday.
“I am back in Pittsburgh with Pittsburgh Opera to sing Il Trovatore and the role is Azucena. It actually was the very first major role that I sang in my early career in 1995,” Cornetti said.
Cornetti has played the role over 170 times, but there is something special about doing it in front of a home audience.
“To be on stage with my home opera company, and to have people from this area to come see me do this role—it’s a lot of pressure,” Cornetti said. “And yet, I’m just thrilled to bring all that experience back home.”
The debut show is Saturday with performances also scheduled for March 28th, 31st, and April 1st.
