Being perfect isn’t an easy thing to do. But last Friday afternoon at the Family Bowlaway, Special Olympics athlete James Caldwell did just that.
The 26-year-old Butler native rolled a 300—which was the first time that ever happened with the Butler Special Olympics.
Mary Pitzer is the manager of the county’s Special Olympics program.
“Oh my goodness, by the time he got the ninth strike, we all wanted to watch but didn’t want to jinx him,” Pitzer said. “We were all just a bundle of nerves.”
Pitzer said Caldwell has been bowling with the program for the last eight years. He’ll be traveling with 21 other athletes this weekend to Villanova University to participate in the Special Olympics Fall Festival.
Pitzer said the 86 athletes participate in the Special Olympics bowling program every Friday afternoon at the Family Bowlaway. Over 200 athletes participate in the Special Olympics program county-wide.
