Students at Butler Senior High School will be attending a prom unlike any other—outdoors in the parking lot.
Senior High Principal Dr. John Wylie told our newsroom that the plan is to host the prom May 7th in the bus circle near the cafeteria.
“We’re planning on putting up a big tent on the drive and parking lot. It’s going to cover some parking spaces and the loop near where the rifle range and auditorium are,” Wylie said.
Wylie said the cafeteria will be open along with the lobby to auditorium in case it gets too hot. There will be tables set up underneath the walkway between the cafeteria and the gymnasium.
He’s also planning for the traditional prom walk, but will take it through the parking lot referred to as the banana.
“Obviously we’re going to try and keep people distanced, but we’re going to do that through the banana,” Wylie said. “We’re going to have kids get dropped off by the administration building, have kids walk down through the banana, and people can watch at the sides of the parking lot as the kids come down into the prom area.”
Wylie said the biggest concern is weather—so a few rain dates have been added including the following Saturday, May 8th.
